Kalki was born in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India, in 188. His parents were Krishnamurthy and Rajamma. He started his writing career in 1908, at the age of 22. He is the founder of the Tamilnadu. He is a major figure in the anti-sultanism movement, and has written against the British, the French, the Americans, and other foreign powers.

Kalki has written in Tamil, English, and Hindi. His works are translated into many languages.
